Following up on last week’s education on what to do after a waxing, we wanted to give you some information on preparing for a waxing or sugaring. Here are a few tips that will ensure you have a great appointment and experience!
Before your appointment:
1. Gently exfoliate the area to be waxed/sugared a day before to remove dead skin cells and prevent ingrown hairs.
2. Come to your appointment with clean and dry skin to avoid infections.
3. Your hair should be at least 1/4 to 1/2 inch long for effective waxing.
4. STOP using retinol/tretinoin 7 days before your appointment.
5. Do NOT use AHA/BHA or harsh scrubs 48 hours prior to your appointment.
6. Check with your physician regarding any medications you may be using that could cause the skin to be more sensitive and/or bruising.
To reduce discomfort:
1. Consider taking a mild pain reliever about 30 minutes prior to your appointment to help take the edge off.
2. Avoid or limit the amount of caffeine you take as it can heighten sensitivity.
After your appointment:
1. Avoid as much as possible touching the area treated, tight fitting clothing, exposing the area to sun, excessive sweating, pools, hot tubs, steam rooms, saunas, oceans, lakes, river, tanning beds, scented lotions, perfumes, or harsh skin care products.
2. DO drink plenty of water and stay well hydrated to promote healthy skin and to heal faster.
3. Use a cool compress or Tuel Super Soothe to help reduce redness if necessary.
4. Use Tuel ClearIt if you are prone to ingrown hairs.
